Update 22.06.2008: We gladly announce the successful final of the exhibition. But we are already contacting artists to create something like an Art Boulevard soon. Update 12.08.2007 : This video shows the latest inhabitants of our underwater sculptures. Compare it with the videos from 2 years ago and see the the difference. These artworks became a part of nature. The clip was recorded on 9th of August 2007: {flv}exhibition{/flv} Underwater sculpture exhibition In September 2005 the sculptures of the 'Ataturk University Erzurum' and 'Akdeniz University Antalya' were sunk in the bay by Kiris (Kemer/Antalya/Turkey). The aim was to draw attention for the scuba diving tourism and to create a new divespot in order to lower the amount of divers at the other local spots. The exhibition is accessible from all local diving centers and was officially opened by Mr Hasan Seker, mayor of Kemer. The material and transport was donated by the marble company ERGUN Mermer (www.ergunmermer.com) in Erzurum. The action was brought to life together with the team of the IWM (www.diveTR.com). The figures are shifted each autumn onto the more protected rocks, where they are hidden protected against waves. Some smaller figures are taken out of water, to be placed again in spring. In the season 2006 estimated 3500 divers visited the exhibition. The sculptures are already covered with beautiful vegetation and sponges. Fish is inhabiting the cavities creating an interesting symbiosis between nature and culture. The figures consist of marble and do not harm the environment at all.
